To the Stars

Book Cover

To the Stars

I want to give a shout-out for the sci-fi classic To the Stars by L. Ron Hubbard.

For the 75th Anniversary the publisher contracted me about featuring it. Cool, right? It tackles the implications of one of the most perplexing concepts of modern physics—time-dilation theory. For those who journey between the stars near the speed of light, time slows down relative to time as experienced by those who remain behind. Days or weeks spent traveling in space equate to many years back on Earth. Even now, few men in the world understand Einstein’s theory of relativity and the crux of time dilation. Just a glimpse at the reviews is enough to warrant reading and seeing why this work has stood the test of time in my favorite genre: “This book is one of his best.” —Alan Cheuse, NPR “This SF novel is one of his finest works. Hubbard brilliantly evokes the vastness of space and the tragedy of those who would conquer it.” —Publishers Weekly “Remarkably powerful novel.” —John W. Campbell, Jr., Astounding Science Fiction “Just as timely, just as awe-inspiring, just as profoundly moving as it was in 1950.” —Barnes & Noble: Explorations Newsletter “A masterpiece of science fiction, a true classic. In it are the seeds for so many other SF greats that came after it. Rollicking fun, deeply moving, and jam-packed with rigorously extrapolated hard-SF ideas.” —Robert J. Sawyer (Flashforward) “A master of the art of narrative.” —Robert Silverberg (The Book of Skulls) “L. Ron Hubbard’s To the Stars shows us what that could be like. The physics gives it backbone, but the drama gives it heart.” —Dr. Gregory Benford (Timescape) Story description Space is deep, Man is small and Time is his relentless enemy… How far is too far? Alan Corday is about to find out. He is shanghaied aboard a space craft bound for the stars on a journey approaching the speed of light. The world he leaves behind vanishes into the past. And nothing in the dark, forbidding reaches of space can prepare him for the astounding discovery he will make upon his return from the stars. You will love To the Stars because you’ll experience space exploration in a way you will not forget. And, if you love audio, the full cast performance is great.
