During the Eocene Era, an extraterrestrial genus released its subordinate species, now known as opt inhabitants, onto Earth. It was not until the 1900s that scientists discovered these mammalian-like beings were not of this world. Today, government-appointed agencies conduct controversial experiments on them under the guise of research.
The International Research and Administration of Animalia Biotechnology (IRAAB) introduces Lee, an opt inhabitant selected to assimilate into society. Lee lives like any ordinary human, working a desk job, ordering takeout, and forming opinions on art, religion, and politics, yet his emotions remain bound by instinct.
Phase One of Project Opt Homo-Inhabitant requires that he achieve a human-level emotional range or face termination. On the verge of failure, Lee’s fate changes when he meets his first friend, Virginia.
